UNICEF Call for EOIs: Open Source Technology Solutions for Challenges faced by Children & Young People

Deadline: 1 January 2017

United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) is seeking Expressions of Interests (EOI) to provide funding for early-stage, open source technology solutions that address the most pressing challenges faced by children and young people.

UNICEF will support companies registered in these markets in UNICEF’s  programme countries- with a small amount of money to move solutions to the stage where these are proven to be workable and can be implemented.

Funding Information

UNICEF will consider applications for funding of approximately up to US$90,000.

FG To Employ 200,000 Graduates In October

The Federal Government has announced on Tuesday that the implementation of its Social Investment Programmes would commence before the end of this month.

This, according to a statement issued in Abuja by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to the Vice President, Mr Laolu Akande, is in fulfillment of the government’s campaign promises.

Mr Akande noted that the Vice President, Mr Yemi Osinbajo, confirmed that implementation plans for the effective commencement of a number of the Social Investment programmes of the Buhari presidency has reached advanced stages as the selection of the first 200,000 unemployed graduates to get jobs is now being completed.

According to the statement, Mr Osinbajo made this known while fielding questions in an interview with a small group of radio journalists and producers at the Presidential Villa.

“We expect that before the end of the month, we will engage 200,000 out of the 500,000

NYSC 2016 Batch B Orientation Course Starts 24th November - 13th December, 2016

The NYSC has announced that the Orientation course for the 2016 Batch B corp members will start on the 24th of November and run through 13th December (great timing i believe for all prospective corpers). 

Also note that schools have started uploading names of successful candidates to the NYSC portal. Visit the site to check if your name has been uploaded. 

If your name has been successfully uploaded, don't hesitate to start your registration on the 17th of October (Official date given by NYSC for commencing of registration)

Well done so far on your training.

We have already gone past the half-line for the training - 13 courses already, we have five more courses to go. We want to encourage you to keeping going until we reach the ultimate goal.

We wish to inform you that the timetable for the online training has been revised in order to accommodate changes made to the programme and make time for the in-class session.  Don't panic if you have not completed ALL of the closed courses, we'll re-open them towards the end of the programme.

The Importance of Strategic Business Planning

Some people call me and say Dominion; I need a business plan next tomorrow. See! Writing a business plan is no doubt a hard task. But it’s very essential, and it comes with lots of long-term benefits.

 The planning process forces you to understand more clearly what you want to achieve as well as how and when to take each step towards achieving it. I can't write a business plan without your contribution, anybody that promise to write a business plan for you without your major contribution is a BIG joker! 

Even if you don’t need financial support from third-parties, a business plan can play a vital role on helping you avoid mistakes or recognize hidden opportunities and challenges. Of course, it is much easier to fold a sheet of paper than it is to fold a business.

Why You Need a Business Plan

Why do you want a business plan? You already know the obvious reasons, but there are so many other good reasons to create a business plan that many business owners don't know about. So, just for a change, let's take a look at the less obvious reasons first and finish with the ones you probably already know about.

15. Set specific objectives for managers. Good management requires setting specific objectives and then tracking and following up. I'm surprised how many existing businesses manage without a plan. How do they establish what's supposed to happen? In truth, you're really just taking a short cut and planning in your head--and good for you if you can do it--but as your business grows you want to organize and plan better, and communicate the priorities better. Be strategic. Develop a plan; don't just wing it.

Share your strategy, priorities and specify action points with your spouse, partner or significant other. Your business life goes by so quickly: a rush of answering phone calls, putting out fliers, etc. Don't the other people in your business life need to know what's supposed to be happening? Don't you want them to know?

13. Deal with displacement. Displacement is probably by far the most important practical business concept you've never heard of. It goes like this: "Whatever you do is something else you don't do." Displacement lives at the heart of all small-business strategy. At least most people have never heard of it.

100 Interview Tips

I believe that we all must not become a business man or woman, you will find the tips below very useful if you are not going to go into business after your service. I advice you to go through the tips carefully like you studied your courses in school.

1.      Do your research - It is best that you know certain things about the company you are applying a job for. Researching about the company can also help you answer possible questions, since it would help you learn more about the nature of their business. Aside from that, if they ask you questions regarding their company and you are able to answer them properly, then it shows them that you are indeed interested in working for them.

2.      If this is not your first time to get interviewed, review your previous ones - Whether you were successful in all your past interviews or not, it is best that you review them for your upcoming one. This is because you can learn valuable lessons from them. Aside from that, if you committed certain mistakes in your past interviews, then you can make sure not to make such mistakes again.
